Mrs. Alford was born August 27, 1913 to William Dennis and Ara Williams Bass in Nash County. She had lived in Wilson since 1952 and was a member of First Baptist Church and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She and her husband were owner and operators of Alford Service Center for 35 years. WILSON [Wilson Co.]—Rachel Bass Alford, 86 widow of Earl Vincent Alford, died Wednesday at her residence. Rachel B. Three great-grandchildren survive, Alexander Thomas Lee, Caroline Elizabeth Lee and Davis Blair Lee of Roswell, Ga. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. S.N. Olness of Wilmington; a son Ernest J. Alford of Wilmington; two sisters Mrs. Jane Carney and Mrs. Sue Nylen both of Wilmington, two brothers Archie E. Byrd of Wilmington, and Dudley J. Byrd of Norfolk Virginia; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Jackey C. Morgan of Bat Cave; a daughter, Billie Shehan of Spartanburg, S.C.; two brothers, Andrew “Buck” Halford and Roy Halford, both of Hendersonville; 15 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning February 13, 2020 at the Beulah Christian Baptist Church. She was born in Wake County the daughter of the late Ida Lee Woodlief Alford and James Hyatt Alford and was preceded in death by her husband; Preston “Dick” Perry, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Ollie Ree Alford, 47, wife of Millard C. Alford, of Thomasville, route 2, died at her home today following an illness of one month. She reported the parents of James are Sidney Alford and, incorrectly, Mary Carlisle. A funeral will be held at noon Thursday at the ChaPines of Jackson Funeral Service.... Mrs. Alford accepted Christ over 50 years ago and was a member of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. March 2, 1956 she married her childhood sweetheart, Mr. Gilbert Burwell Alford, Sr and there were fourteen children to this union. Mrs. Susie Henderson Alford, age 68, departed this life on Monday August 4, 2008 at Nash Health Care Systems.
